The meaning behind Cuas
Cuas is the Irish word for a cove or small coastal inlet, a sheltered place that offers protection from rougher waters. The name reflects what we hope Cuas can be for children, young people and their families; a safe and supportive space to pause, reflect and find your bearings.
Meet the Team
Cuas Psychology Service is led by Dr Áine Herlihy and Dr Aoife Lonergan, two Senior Clinical Psychologists with extensive experience working with children, young people and families. Together, they bring specialist clinical experience in child development, neurodevelopment and psychological assessment, alongside a shared commitment to providing thoughtful, individualised care.
Care that starts with listening
We believe the best support begins with genuinely understanding a family's story. Every consultation and assessment we offer is grounded in evidence-based practice, delivered with warmth, patience and respect for each person's individual experience.

Dr Aoife Lonergan
Chartered Senior Clinical Psychologist
Dr Aoife Lonergan is a Chartered Senior Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and their families across mental health, neurodevelopmental and specialist paediatric services. Aoife currently works at Children's Health Ireland (CHI) at Temple Street, providing specialist psychological assessment and support for children and young people with neurological and complex medical conditions. She is also a visiting lecturer on the MSc in Neuropsychology programme at Trinity College Dublin.
Aoife believes that understanding each child's individual strengths, needs and experiences is central to a meaningful psychological assessment. Her aim is to provide families with greater clarity and practical guidance to support their child at home, in school and in everyday life.
Aoife's approach is neuroaffirmative, collaborative and evidence-based. She understands that seeking a psychological assessment can feel uncertain or overwhelming, and she aims to make the process clear and supportive, ensuring parents feel heard and actively involved throughout.
Aoife's work is informed by specialist postgraduate training in Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychology at University College London and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from University College Dublin.
Above all, Aoife hopes families leave with a deeper understanding of their child, greater confidence in supporting them, and a clearer sense of the path ahead.

Dr Áine Herlihy

Dr Áine Herlihy is a Chartered Senior Clinical Psychologist (M15898C), with over 16 years clinical experience working across a variety of H.S.E. settings (Children's Disability Network Teams (CDNT), CAMHS, Adult Mental Health Services, Primary Care and Older Adult Services).
Áine is deeply passionate about providing evidence based, neuro-affirmative autism assessments. Over the years, Áine has developed a particular specialism in differential diagnosis and has acted as an expert witness, assisting the High Court on complex medicolegal cases relating to birth injury, autism, ADHD, intellectual disability and rare genetic conditions.

Áine has previously lectured on Developmental Psychology across the lifespan for the Masters in Art Therapy, at Munster Technological University (MTU).
A strong parent-child relationship significantly shapes a child's future. Therefore, Áine's approach centres on supporting this connection; helping parents to understand and respond to their child's unique needs and strengths, while also recognising and understanding their own unique needs and strengths, within the parenting relationship.
She brings a broad clinical experience to her work, alongside a warm, compassionate and evidence-based approach.
